FULL DAY CLASS: Shooting Products and Learning In-Camera Techniques
Product photography is one of the "unseen" styles of shooting in that its purpose serves to show off products instead of the image itself. Think about any print advertisment that you see every day; how often do we look past the photograph in order to see the product being sold? If the photographer has done their job properly, then you will do that on a regular basis. The goal of product photography is not to have viewers "oooh" and "aaah" over the image but, rather, sell the product that the image showcases.
This class introduces you to the issues, difficulties, and fun of shooting products commercially. The skills learned in this class can benefit anyone, especially if all you want to do is sell your own stuff online with sites like Ebay, Amazon, craigslist, etc. A good photograph not only makes your product more attractive, it can also increase the final sale price.
To successfully achieve decent product photographs, there are a lot of tips and techniques that you can use which, when done properly, will elevate the final image above that of your competitors. How do you get a shadowless image without over-exposing your image? How do you get a reflection of your product underneath? How do decide which part of the product must be in sharp focus? Do you need special equipment?
Sure, you can do a lot of that in Photoshop, but learning to do it in-camera will require less time and effort. These questions, and others, are addressed in this class as part of the
Learning In-Camera Techniques.
Topics Covered Include:
- Using light to minimize shadow
- Framing (composing) the product for maximum impact
- Special effects and props
- Do's and don'ts of shooting products
- How image quality can affect sale price
This class is recommended for anyone who wants to either shoot commercially or photograph their own items to sell online. It is a hands-on session with a combination of instructor led discussion/instruction and shooting time. For the actual shooting time, you will work in small groups and help each other set up the product.
Who Should Attend?
This class is open to anyone and everyone who is interested in this style of photography. Although there are no pre-requisite classes, it is strongly recommended that you are comfortable using your camera and understand the basics of using your camera.
